Philip Juras: The Southern Frontier, Landscapes Inspired by Bartram’s Travels

Telfair Academy January 28 - May 8, 2011

This exhibition explores the ways in which Athens-based landscape painter Philip Juras has been inspired by the work of 18th-century naturalist William Bartram. This series of approximately 50 paintings presents views, some imagined and some factual, of the Southeast in Bartram’s time, before the landscape was irrevocably altered by European settlement.
