2001.2_StonePaul Goadby Stone was born in North Carolina in 1928 and worked in Savannah from 1957 until his tragic and untimely death in 1976, at the age of just 48. Noted for his mastery of the unforgiving medium of tempera, Stone was also adept with oil, watercolor, and pencil. The Telfair is currently planning a retrospective of Stone’s work; highlights will include many of Stone’s highly proficient portraits and graceful studies of the male figure. Paul Stone was educated in Massachusetts at Phillips Academy in Andover, Harvard University, and the museum school of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.
