Silver! From the kitchen to the dining room, from the craftsman to the collector, silver is an integral part of Savannah’s history. Its allure and luster will be explored and celebrated at TAG’s spring fundraiser, The Artful Table: Discovering Savannah’s Silver Lining.
the Preview Party / March 11, 6:30 pm / Telfair Academy
Always a sparkling affair, the Preview Party will have even more sparkle this year with silver accenting the fare from Savnnah’s top restaurants and caterers. Participating are 17 Hundred 90 Inn, Cape Creations Catering, Cha Bella, Chef Nick Mueller & Co., Edible Arrangements, Elizabeth’s on 37th , Eos Restaurant & Wine Bar, First City Club, Girabaldi’s Cafe, Il Pasticiio, Johnny Ganem Winery & Catering, Kasey’s Gourmet Grille, Landings Club, Russo’s Seafood, Savannah Quarters Country Club, Savor Savannah Catering, Starland Cafe, andVic’s on the River. Preview Party guests will get a first glimpse of the event’s signature table vignettes, also sparkling with touches of silver.
the lecture / March 12, 10 am / Savannah Theatre
Two internationally-known silver experts, Beth Carver Wees and Ellenor Alcorn, will lecture on social and historical aspects of the precious metal at the Savannah Theatre. Wees is Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Alcorn serves as Consulting Curator of the Jerome and Rita Gans Collection of English Silver at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Transportation available to the Savannah Theater, begining at 9 am in front of the Telfair Academy.
the Luncheon / March 12, 12 pm / Telfair Academy and Jepson Center
Following the lecturers’ presentation by Wees and Alcorn, The Artful Table guests will move to the Telfair for a seated luncheon amidst flowers, fine art, and dazzling table vignettes. Luncheon catered by Chef Nick Mueller & Co.
The Speaker Sponsor Luncheon, a new element added last year, will be repeated during the 2010 event. This year’s speakers will present a hands-on silver demonstration—covering maker’s marks, as well as place and date marks—to a limited number of guests.
A raffle and auction of Tiny Tables designed by local artists, all with a bit of silver sparkle, will round out the day.
