DESCRIPTION:The Jacob and Gwendolyn Lawrence Lecture Series was established in 2007. It presents programs by noted scholars of African American art as well as distinguished African American artists. Past programs include a lecture entitled “The New Black Portraiture” by Dr. Richard Powell of Duke University (2007); a talk by artist Richard Mayhew\, in conjunction with an exhibition of his work at Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center (2008); and a presentation on club photography by art historian Krista A.
