Habitat and Murmurs of Earth:
Two Animations by Lars
Arrhenius
Telfair's Jepson Center for the Arts

The Jepson Center’s Kane Gallery has been transformed into
a media screening room for the presentation of the short animations
Habitat and Murmurs of Earth by Swedish artist Lars Arrhenius
(b. 1966). Habitat follows the interaction, and sometimes lack
thereof, between nine individuals (and one dog) living in close physical proximity in an urban apartment building, commenting on the simultaneous
presence of intimacy and isolation in modern society. The animation Murmurs of Earth was named after the discs sent into outer
space on the Voyager expedition of 1977. Like these discs, this
animation attempts to encapsulate the history of Earth, from creation
to the present to an ominous imagined future.
